Algeria’s National Centre for the Trade Register (CNRC) has quietly rolled out a digital overhaul of its business registry, a move that cuts through layers of bureaucracy for entrepreneurs and the diaspora. The shift, confirmed by the Ministry of Commerce in late 2025, replaces paper filings with an online portal that now handles 60 % of new company registrations, up from 15 % two years ago. The portal, accessible at cnrc.dz, allows founders to reserve a company name, submit documents, and receive a digital certificate within 48 hours—down from the previous 15-day average.
The change is part of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s broader “Digital Algeria 2025” plan, which has already digitised tax filings and customs declarations. According to the CNRC, the registry now lists 1.2 million active businesses, with 45 000 new entries in 2025 alone, a 22 % increase over 2024.
